INNOVATIVE EPOXY SOLUTIONS

BIO-SEAL PLUS
Plasticized Solvent Free Sealing Epoxy

DESCRIPTION
BIO SEAL PLUS was formulated to provide safe and effective sealing and reinforcement of surfaces such as concrete exposed to contamination from road salts, gasoline, oil drips and similar materials. The unique BIO SEAL PLUS formulation has excellent tolerance to the dampness left in concrete after preparation for coating by high pressure water jetting. The formulation is solvent-free to avoid the objectionable odour and explosion hazards of epoxy solvents. Absence of solvents also assures compliance with all present and proposed air pollution regulations. BIO-SEAL PLUS is non-blushing and can be applied and will cure underwater. The added plasticizer increases the elongation from 9-12%, up to 23-25% dependant on substrate conditions and will ultimately allow for more substrate movement and less pressure cracks.

USES

SEWERAGE - BIO SEAL PLUS is an ideal resin for use in the sewerage repair or re-lining industry where underground substrate movement has caused deterioration or degradation to the main structure. It is extremely moisture tolerant and unlike other resin systems used in this type of application, BIO SEAL PLUS does not contain any of the harmful ingredients which are normally associated with moisture tolerant resins. Therefore BIO SEAL PLUS can be used with no harmful side effects to the water table or surrounding environment.

SURFACE REINFORCEMENT. An ideal binder for making concrete repair mortar. A standard 2 gallons (7.5 litres) kit of BIO-SEAL PLUS will accept 2 gallons (7.5 litres) of sand filler to yield 4 gallons (15 litres) of a self-levelling filler or up to 3 gallons (11 litres) of sand filler to yield 5 gallons (18.75 litres) of a trowelable mortar.

REINFORCEMENT Used extensively in glass reinforced epoxy systems especially for applications such as underwater hull repair and custom GRP fabrications. The long potlife, predictable cure rate and total absence of surface 'blush' together with excellent physical and chemical resistance make BIO-SEAL PLUS ideal for applications exposed to harsh industrial or marine conditions. Because of the chemical curing process, gentle exotherm and high elongation percentage it is ideal as a high build laminating or repair resin.

SEALER When used as a sealer BIO-SEAL PLUS is designed to be absorbed into the concrete surface, very heavy applications will result in a glossy, slippery film which can be made skid resistant by broadcasting sand into it while still liquid.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Remove surface contamination by high-pressure water jetting or similar methods with or without abrasive injection. Hand held power tools such as grinders or needle guns will give good results if applied conscientiously in small areas but will be inadequate in large areas. Conventional abrasive blasting using air/abrasive or centrifugal blasters are preferred methods of surface preparation in most cases where oily or greasy contamination is a problem.

APPLICATION
Mix BIO-SEAL PLUS epoxy base with the BIO-SEAL PLUS curing agent supplied. Use a mechanical mixer if possible to ensure thorough mixing. The mixing ratio is 1/1 (base/curing agent) by volume. BIO-SEAL PLUS does not require a 'sweat-in' or induction time and the mixed components should be used immediately. Potlife is approximately 45 minutes at 77 degrees F (27 degrees C), small amounts of solvent may be added if the mixture begins to thicken noticeably towards the end of its working life. Apply in a thin film using a brush, roller, pad or squeegee. Overcoating with
IES-251, BIO-FIX, BIO FIX PLUS OR BIOFIX (LV) or other IES materials may be carried out before full curing of the BIO-SEAL PLUS if necessary since chemical curing will continue normally even when overcoated.

TEMPERATURE

Temperature exerts a considerable influence on the rate of hardening of chemically cured materials such as BIO-SEAL PLUS. In broad terms expect each 10 degrees C, (18 degrees F), rise or fall in temperature to half or double dry times and pot lives.
